For the Coffee Connoisseur:

  • Spice it Up. I love a pinch of cinnamon, cardamom, or nutmeg on my drinks. It adds warmth and depth.
  • Go Bold with Extracts. (I use this sparingly) Vanilla, almond, or peppermint extracts can transform your cup into a fragrant delight.
  • Embrace the Citrus. For a more festive and energizing cup, I often add a squeeze of lemon or orange zest, or a drop or two of their juice. It adds a refreshing brightness that wakes me up and elevates the flavor.
  • Creamy Dreams. Top with whipped cream or foamed plant milk, a sprinkle of cocoa powder, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

And for the Cocoa Lovers

  • Nutty Indulgence. For a decadent twist, stir in a spoonful of hazelnut syrup or add a few chopped nuts. Or, for a truly surprising treat, try adding a half teaspoon of peanut butter to your cup. The first time I tried it, I was delighted by how delicious it was!
  • Marshmallow Magic. This is a classic holiday treat: top with mini marshmallows and enjoy the gooey goodness.
  • Spicy Kick. A dash of cayenne pepper adds a surprising warmth to your cocoa. This is where the idea for our 70% Dark Chocolate with Chili came from!
  • Mad for Mint. For a quick and easy hot chocolate, break 70% Dark Chocolate with Mint into small pieces, add your preferred milk, and microwave for 30 seconds. It’s the perfect cozy treat!

Here is a recipe I tried just this morning:

Cacao Wanda Hazelnut Mocha

Ingredients:

  • For the Mocha:
  • For the Hazelnut Flavor (optional, if you’re using Hazelnut-flavored coffee blend)
    • 1 tablespoon hazelnut syrup
    • 1 teaspoon hazelnut extract
  • For Topping (optional)
    • Whipped cream
    • Chocolate shavings or drizzle
    • Chopped hazelnuts

Instructions:

  1. Make the Mocha:
    • In a small saucepan, heat the milk, cocoa powder, and sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened.
    • Pour the hot milk mixture over the espresso or coffee.
  2. Add Hazelnut Flavor:
    • Stir in the hazelnut syrup and extract.
  3. Assemble and Serve:
    • Pour the mocha into your favorite mug.
    • Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings or drizzle, and chopped hazelnuts.

Tips for the Perfect Hazelnut Mocha:

  • Quality Ingredients. Use high-quality coffee beans, rich cocoa powder, and a good hazelnut syrup or extract for the best flavor.
  • Customize Your Drink. Adjust the amount of sugar and hazelnut flavor to your preference.

  • Frothy Milk. For a more luxurious experience, froth the milk using a milk frother or a French press.
